Why I built this
I have been a Serie A fan for over a decade and a career-long football nerd. I remember exactly where I was when Juventus went 33-5-0 under Conte — staring at the league table thinking: could any team ever win all 38?
That question stuck. Years later, after learning game development and spending countless hours scraping historical match data, I built the 38-0-0 draft game as a personal project. The 4,499-player Serie A database was compiled by hand over several months — cross-referencing multiple sources, verifying peak-season stats, and tuning the rating formula until it felt right. Every bronze card and every legend in this game came from a real season someone actually played.
Experience & approach
I do not use AI to write the player ratings. The OVR for every card is derived from a custom formula combining appearances, goals, assists, clean sheets (for defenders and goalkeepers), and a positional-adjustment factor that weights different stats for strikers versus centre-backs.
The match simulation engine is built on a Poisson expected-goals modelwith home-advantage, form momentum, and opponent-strength modifiers — the same statistical approach used in professional football analytics. I have run over 5,000 automated test seasons to calibrate the difficulty levels so that a genuinely unbeaten 38-0-0 run is rare even with a stacked squad.
Every simulation result shared on this blog comes from real engine output, not imaginary numbers. When I write about chemistry interactions or formation trade-offs, I am describing what the code actually does, tested against thousands of iterations.
What this site is (and is not)
play38-0-0 is an independent, solo-developed browser game. It is not a company, not a studio, and not backed by any publisher. No AI generates the content — the database, the simulation engine, and every word on this blog were built or written by one person who genuinely cares about getting the football right.
The site carries no advertising trackers and requires no account. Career progress is saved only in your own browser. If I ever add monetisation, I will disclose it here and on the legal page before it goes live.
Read the blog for updates straight from the developer, or jump into a draft.
